Dear All,

I just started learning to play the keyboard with the Gigajam exercises. Great method... I love the feedback you get from analysing your performance using the extractor.

I do however run the risk of becoming prematurely deaf by using it... I have some aggravation in setting the volumes of the exercise accompaniment.

When I start an exercise with the Xtractor (using a MIDI interface to play it on my keyboard) the volume of the Xtractor generated music is A LOT louder than the volume of me plonking the keys. I can fix this by sliding the bars in the mixer but that only works while the music is playing...

If I slide the bars before running the music the bar slides but the volume does not decrease... only after pushing play or record (and bracing myself for the first explosions of base and tophat through my headphones) does sliding have any effect.

Is there a way to set up the connection in such a way that the volumes of Xtractor and keyboard are comparable? (I tried increasing the volume of the main-voice on my keyboard, that helps a little but is far from sufficient)

Or is there a way I can set the volumes before playing (preferably all at once... like loading a preset)?

with kind regards,

Xander

Dear Xander,

Thank you for your message and apologies for the lateness of our reply.

We are looking into doing two things with the volume on Xtractor, which I hope will help with the issue you have identified with the disparity between the backing tracks volume and your instruments.

1. Allowing Xtractor to save any user volume changes made when loading new files, so that it preserves the last mix.
2. Allowing user setting sto override built in programmed volumes in the tracks when looping, as I think the program messages are being re read and are over riding mixer settings.

We are opening Xtractor for development next week and will get a reply ASAP.

Thank you for letting me know, please get in touch if you need anything in the meantime.

With best wishes,

Brian
